Subject:Get this boy a job
Time:11:23 pm
Hello everyone, s'been a while.

So I'm looking for a job, which should take up more of my time, but is never the less an effort on my part. If you know of a place that has a management training program, or more specifically, is hiring entry for advertisement, marketing, fundraising or human resources, I'd be delighted if you threw me a line.

The eventual goal is to get expertise enough in these four fields to go for a strategic communications position, likely at some non-profit, whioch would coordinate the public face of the system, and be an all-around dynamic and awesome job.

So I went to the dentist today in the first time in too long, and found out that apparently, I grind my teeth to the point where minor damage has already been done, and also have some cavities. I happen to lack insurance. The mouthguard is $250, and each cavity is $125 to fill, at least at the place where I got them checked out. Am I horribly irresponsible and gross for wanting to wait until I have insurance, instead of bankrupting my credit card? I mean, can't I try to juryrig a hockey mouthguard into something similarly protective, short-term?

I've recently decided that I want to draw again. I was sitting at a cafe` a while back with Bev and [info]sleepsong, and looked up my pictures. They are better than I remembered. Check them out at creaux.deviantart.com! Prismacolor markers are basically cheating.

I recently watched the anime Last Exile, and rather liked it. The ending wasn't as strong as I felt it could have been, but the characters and the universe are both pretty great. Al might be my favorite kid in fiction, and certainly would be were I asked right now.

Anyway, later!

Subject:Cardinals Versus Pirates tomorrow
Time:09:28 pm
Hey, because I'm cool, I'm just now revisiting an old post from April about wanting to see a 'cards game here in Pittsburgh. Well, tomorrow seems to be the day! The game starts at 7:05, so yeah...should be fun!

Nosebleeder seats are $9, bleachers are $14...I could go for either.

You've got my number if you're interested! If not, then I'll check this a lot...?

Subject:A Game of Thrones RPG
Time:09:30 pm
I'm currently playing in a Game of Thrones RPG, based off of the badass books. We're looking for just one more player. The game is set to be full of courtly intrigue. One player as chosed to play the infamous Cersei Lannister, while another player and I are playing, respectively, an emmisary from House Tyrell, seeking allies in the chaos of the war of four kings, and the new Master of Whispers.

We are meeting on Friday nights, and the game shouldn't run too awfully late. Should be fun, come and play!

Well, here we go--Respond to this and I am under obligation to choose five of your interests that...interest me, and I'll ask you about them, like Rae did, me. It's pretty easy to grasp, methinks. Just leave a comment, puppydog eyes a-pleading, and we'll see where that gets you.

[info]blkbelt901 chose: "wierd stuff", ctfws, places that don't exist, pravada?, urban fantasy, kill your television and (sigh) your mom

-I have no idea what I was on about with "Wierd Stuff."
-ctfws is, of course, Capture the Flag with stuff, an awesome game. KGB's most infamous event.
-Places that don't exist are those that authorities tell you don't exist in a (futile) attempt to keep you from exploring them :)
-Pravda? is the KGB news/"literary" magazine. It is something that everyone is invited to submit to, in no uncertain terms. It is generally a good read, when it occurs.
-Urban Fantasy I'm interpreting as being a universe that takes place in a (probably contemporary) urban setting. Right now, I'm running a world of darkness game set in Pittsburgh, an example.
-Killing one's television mostly springs from the fact that I live completely happily without a television, and waste time with one when one is present. Hmmmmm.
-Your mom was asking about your mom last night.

These are two of the Spionage films. These were done (mostly) as a class project in Highschool for German class. The two here are the second and third films produced; a first is legend and a fourth is in post-production hell. They are terrible, but I had a lot of fun making them, and they make me look like more of an asshat than I usually do. They are all in German; don't let this stop you from watching it. I think it is healthier to not know what is supposed to be going on.

I've missed my bed time...

i'm working crew for the Pittsurgh International Children's Festival. It is a lot of fun, but it i certainly the most physically demanding job I've ever had.

Today, I had call at 7 AM. This was after getting off from delivering at 10 PM, my brother stopping overnight on the way to California, and us having Primanti's. This is after three days of low sleep due to early call and either work or social events.

The work itself is hard but fun; moving plenty of tables/chairs, pounding stakes, hauling boxes, spreading mulch, securing power cords, holding tent poles as the tent is erected, moving portable toilets, sweeping, helping get the walkie-talkies working, working with the vendors at the festival as they set up. I enjoy it!

Thing is, I did not get off from work today until 7:45 PM. I called off of delivering tonight, but have delivery the rest of the week. Soon after that, though, I'm done, as I put in my notice Monday before last.

The ridiculous thing is, call is at 6 tomorrow. The rediculouser thing is, I'm not exhausted.

One of the perks of bumming around college campuses is getting free newspapers. I like the occasional crossword while I am waiting for another delivery.

Today I grabbed a NY Times out of Resnik Hall and found within it a cool story. I often expect to hear of the coolest/most interesting of the news on All Things Considered or Marketplace, but the Gray Lady had something new in store--namely, an article about the mapping of the "Diseasome," or a visual representation of the genes which malfunction to cause which diseases, and how they relate.

Anyway, here's a link to a pretty interesting thing.

One thing that I was impressed by was the link between epilepsy (which both of my parents have) and nicotine addiction (both of my parents had some trouble quitting smoking). Maybe there is something to this!

Liquid Snake as the user pic for reference to genomes (of course).

Just now, as I was out driving, I saw a veteran begging for money at a stoplight. This isn't exactly an unusual sight. What made this significant was the fact that a) the guy was walking (with a cane) with his knee going the wrong direction, and b) he was younger than me. He still had a crew cut. I mean, I suppose this is further proof that humans aren't creatures of pure logic, but this really drove the shittiness of the war home. The synchronicity? REM's Ignoreland playing on my stereo. *sigh* When asked about all of the young men dying on the Eastern Front, Hitler responded, "That's what they're for, isn't it?"

Me being "cute" aside, I intend to go to a ball game or two this year. As the only team I root root root for (sorry) is the Cardinals, that somewhat limits dates.

The Redbirds are in town July 11-13th, and in September. I may well end up going to both series, but I want to see at least one ball game this summer.

Anyone want to go with? Tickets are aquirable for $9, although I'm considering luxuriating and upgrading to the $14 bleacher, if anyone else who wanted to go was interested.

Subject:Awesomesauce coffee house!
Time:05:32 pm
Current Mood:Inopportune, I am a gourmet.
Everyone needs to check out Your Inner Vagabond in Lawrenceville. It is a mid-eastern coffee house that is actually pretty "deep" in terms of what they do--you can get different light snacks/foods that are all based around a dip for pitas, Turkish coffees, and a wide variety of mid-eastern desserts.

The place itself is rather huge. There is a front seating room, and a rear area with a stage (I believe it is nicknamed the Harem, LOL) a venue for different sorts of shows/movie nights/live music.

Atmosphere was obviously a top consideration as well. The walls are covered in Arabic designs, the lighting is gentle, and the music works really well. Let's face it--if there is a culture that knows how to bring relaxation to an art form, it is Mid-Eastern.

The Turkish coffee was yummy, the Turkish delight was great, the fava bean dip was yummy.

Perhaps best of all, the place is open to 2 AM, Wednesday through Saturday. Monday and Tuesday are closed-days, 'cause the place isn't getting enough business yet. So, anyone want to get some coffee in a relaxing environment?

Subject:Spring break is for explorers!
Time:10:23 pm
Current Mood:[mood icon] Adventurous
Although it denotes no shift in my life, those around me are effected by spring break in often-positive ways. Free time means time for wasting, and thus, i want to do some exploration. I've been to some on these, and not others.

Sites I want to explore (how cool I think they are) (and their difficulty):
a) The church from Dogma (**) (a- for musical instruments, b otherwise)
b) Union-Atlas Concrete plant (**+, I've not visited) (Dunno)
c) Carrie Furnace (Up to a-) (** to ****, depending on how adventurous)
d) Random Pitt campus places (Up to b-) (* to **)
e) Old subway (I think) entrances along 2nd Ave. (Unsure, potentially b+) (**** only way in I've seen a) borders a busy road and b) needs to squeeze bast bars)

Other places are welcome, and I'll post other ideas here to be discussed!

Also, if you are going on spring break, I'm pretty sure I'd be willing to go back out to any of these places. I just haven't been out in a while, and want to get moving.

Subject:Warmachine/Hordes Demos!
Time:07:46 pm
Current Mood:[mood icon] evangelical
Hello everyone...

I sort of feel in the mood to demo some Warmachine or Hordes games. If you've never played a miniature wargame before, you should try it out--it is a different experience from a video game, for sure.

Warmachine and Hordes are interconnected games that take place in the Iron Kingdoms--a "full metal fantasy" universe in which science and technology are blended. Warmachine concentrates on the kingdoms themselves--professional armies featuring Warjacks, steam-powered robots that are magically directed by wizard-generals known as Warcasters. Hordes focuses on the groups caught in between the larger conflicts. Warlocks draw strength from the fury of their warbeasts. The universe is well-written and dynamic, with each warcaster or warlock a character who adapts and grows as the tides of the conflict shift.

The game itself is easy to learn, and pretty quick. You could probably go through a demo in 45 minutes, which means you'd be able to try out a few different forces, heh!

I'm thinking I'll probably plan on hanging out at Phantom of the Attic this Saturday, but my schedule is pretty loose, so feel free to give me a call or an email and ask for a game. Also, the game totally doesn't have to be at Phantom, all I'd need would be a table at least 3'X3' (though larger is a bit better).

World of Darkness totally should exist, and I be needing mages, werewolves and vampiros willing to explore the rusty, obscure, seamy, mystical and troubled shadows of Pittsburgh. Find out why they actually tore the old mental hospital down! Find out why Pittsburgh has the second-largest collection of relics in the world (and is it connected to the visit of the "Bodies!" exhibit?) And for that matter, just what sort of research is going on in the National Robotics Engineering Center?

Try me with whatever sort of character you'd like to place into a shade-tinged alternate version of This Glorious City. Let's tell a kick-ass ghost story.

Tentative Tuesday evening playtime. I'm looking for one or two more players, and it is conceivable that space might fill :)

Subject:Oh t3h world is strang3.
Time:07:24 pm
A few things of mild note.

First off, I have a graphics tablet! I want to draw things, so make suggestions and I might get about to them.

Second, my phone has arisen from the depths of the sea, so feel free to call me.

Related to this, the "salesman" at the T-mobile store (if he deserves that title) was an astounding figure. I have a flexpay plan, basically meaning I pay for each month at a time, no contract. Wanting to save money, as I had high bills, I asked him right off the bat if I could look at some contract deals. He told me that probably wouldn't save me any money. He pulled up my account, noted that I wasn't using much of my minutes, and recommended that I shift to a lower-minute plan. He also said that I should probably ditch text messaging, as I wasn't using anything like the 500/month that my $5 US buys. He was totally helpful and got me a napkin when my finger spontaniously started bleeding!

Third, I got the newest No Quarter magazine, Privateer Press (maker of my beloved Warmachine game)'s rag. They had Epic Nemo's stats. ZOMG! Now there is simply no way I'll be able to wait to field the old geezer.

Fourth, I'm going to be resuming DMing soon, either World of Darkness: Pittsburgh or Successor States. There may be openings, and I can fill inquisitive folks with details should they emerge.

Fifth, I downloaded the first seventeen episodes of the Prisoner. AWESOME! I watched the first three last night. Full of success. The older woman 2 is SOO frigging cool.
